DOn'T WaIT, WE CAN HELP!
Let our passionate Orton-Gillingham specialists help your child succeed.
Orton-Gillingham (OG) is a multi-sensory approach to teaching reading that was specifically designed for children with dyslexia and reading difficulties. Based on years of study about the brain and how we learn, It uses visual (seeing), auditory (hearing), tactile (touching), and kinesthetic (moving) approaches.
Skills are taught in a cumulative and systematic way. Each lesson is prescriptive, diagnostic, and individualized and allows for flexibility; moving as quickly or slowly as their needs dictate.
We build on skills and teach to mastery always spiraling back to reinforce what has already been taught.
Lessons incorporate phonemic awareness, decoding, blending, fluency, comprehension, encoding, handwriting, and morphology.
It’s an amazing way to teach any child to read, but essential for the child with dyslexia!
Each one to one tutoring session is designed specifically for your child. We do not only focus on their weaknesses; we focus on their strengths as well. Why? Because many of the students with dyslexia and reading difficulties that we work with have low self-esteem, they feel “dumb”, they are frustrated, and they feel like they cannot succeed. That’s why it is so important for us to focus on the whole child. We want them to understand why they are struggling. There are no mistakes or wrong answers at Wishes, there are only moments to learn a better and easier way. Their emotional success is just as important as their academic success.
Because at our one of a kind center we understand. We understand dyslexia, we understand learning differences, we understand your child’s difficulties and we understand your fears and frustrations as a parent.
We are not only Orton-Gillingham tutors, we are advocates as well. Our Director is mom to one child with dyslexia and one child with reading difficulties. Our tutors are a mix of mothers of children with Dyslexia, ADHD, and Autism and educators who have gone above and beyond to educate themselves in the Orton-Gillingham approach so they can best serve the needs of their students.
